Description

Multifaceted region, Piedmont is able to satisfy even the most demanding tourist: the lover of natural beauty (in Piedmont there are 193.000 hectares of protected areas, about 7,6% of the regional surface, for a total of 56 parks and regional reserves, 2 National Parks, the "Gran Paradiso" and "Val Grande", the Regional Park of Avigliana Lakes and the Regional Park of Candia Lake) as well as the lover of good food and wine. Without forgetting the beautiful royal palaces of the Savoy dynasty (Turin, Venaria, Stupinigi, Racconigi, Agliè) declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the churches placed under the protection of Savoy, shrines and sacred mounts (Varallo, Crea and Orta), museums and art collections unique in the world (the Egyptian Museum, the Savoy Gallery, the Armoury and the Royal Library). Turin, the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy, holds in the cathedral the Holy Shroud: the linen sheet that, according to tradition, wrapped the body of Jesus. Famous for its metalworking tradition, due to the FIAT car factory, Turin is also renowned for the production of chocolate and giandujotti (whose name derived from the local mask Gianduja).
