Lonato is a beautiful town located on the lower slopes of the morainic amphitheatre of Garda. Its name probably derives from the celtic term "lona", meaning small lake, marshes.
The Roman kilns (II-I century b.C.), the Casa del Potestà, built in the second half of the XV century as the residence of the representative of the Venetian Republic, the Civic Tower, the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, in Baroque style, and the Rocca, surmonting a hill that dominates the Southern side of the Lake garda, are the main sights of the town.
