Luson

Description

Luson (Lüsen in German) is a beautiful town located in the homonymous valley, in the province of Bolzano, surrounded by a wondeful natural landscape made by vineyards, meadows and slopes with the typical "masi" (farms). It is a really charming and relaxing location, not too far from Bressanone, and it is the ideal place for lovers of outdoor activities, such as trekking along the mountain paths or excursions to the Rodenecker or Peitlerkofel. In winter, indeed, snow lovers can cross-country skiing, skating, sledding or mountaineering on Mount Muro.
The place name, documented for the first time in 894, probably derives from a pre-Romanic word.
Historically the village was given by the King Arnulf of Carinthia in 893 to the Bishop of Bressanone (Brixen). In the Middle Ages it was seat of Episcopal jurisdiction.
Sites of interests:
- the Baroque style Church of San Giorgio, built in 1502, with a XIV century font and valuable wooden altars;
- the historical mill of 1646;
- the natural small lake.
