Misterbianco

Description

Misterbianco, whose name derives from an ancient monastery with white walls, destroyed during the Etna's eruption in 1669, preserves many important archaeological remains, from the Neolithic Age to the Greek period, from the Roman to the Byzantine one.
The most outstanding monuments, from an architectural point of view, are the Chiesa Madre, that preserves a marvelous statue of the Madonna delle Grazie by Gagini (1478-1536), the Chiesa di S. Nicolò beholding several paintings of the seventeenth century, and the Chiesa Madonna degli Ammalati preserving a beautiful fresco of 1740 with the representation of the town's ancient Piazza (square). Even the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo del Senato are very interesting, both of the XVIII century.
