Description

A Municipality and resort in the province of Turin, a skier's paradise, surrounded by green forests at 2035 meters altitude, it is the highest located town in Italy. The municipality, consists of several villages and is located on the hill between Val di Susa and Val Chisone. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers, beautiful in both Summer and Winter, an environment which offers a fabulous scenery.
The town, built recently in 1934, by Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of Fiat, who bought the lands, features two prestigious hotels and three cable car lifts. The town followed over the years, the construction of a main road and an important golf course, main feature of a new hotel. The property development was discontinued during World War II, but recovered very quickly in the 50s with the construction of new facilities. Today the town is mainly devoted to tourism, with its acclaimed hotels, 146 ski slopes, some of which are equipped with facilities for artificial snow for a total length of 400 km and 92 lifts. Over the years, it has hosted the Alpine Skiing World Cup, the Alpine skiing World Series and the Winter Olympics.

Not to miss:

- the Parish Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Champlas du Col, built in the XII century, it was rebuilt in 1839. It preserves a pulpit of the XVIII century and a wooden altarpiece of the XVII century.
- the Church of St. Eduardo in Colle Sestriere, built by Giovanni Agnelli, designed by Bottino, in memory of son who died prematurely. It presents a valuable bronze portal, by the artist Dazzi, two marble works created by Ruby, two masterpieces of Messina and a statue of the Madonna by Scuccimarra.
- the Chapel of Regina Pacis, a memorial of the First World War, whose construction began in 1922.
