Sona

Description

Sona is a municipality in the province of Verona, located partially in a hilly area and partially in a plain area, suggestively covered by orchards, vineyards and olive trees and borders with the territories of the nearby regional capital.
The area was inhabited since Pre-historic times and traces attest the presence of settlements since the Neolithic Ages. During the Roman colonization, the entire region was enriched by the construction of important roads, such as Via Gallica, and so Sona, for its strategic location, grew in value. At the Fall of the Empire, the entire region, was not spared from the Barbarian invasions and in the XIV century the Lombards settled here. Subsequently the town was subjected to the Della Scala Family. During the following century it submitted the domain of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, experiencing a period of great peace and growth, thanks to the massive building of artificial water canals that allowed the cultivation of vast territories. In the XIX century the inhabitants were actively involved in the Wars of Independence.
