Soraga

Description

Soraga (Sorega in ladin language) is a small town of Val di Fassa, dominated by the majestic massif of Rosengarten and surrounded by woods and meadows that wind along the Avisio river; the place name derives from the Latin "supra aquam" (above water), reffering to its geographical position.
It is the ideal location for a relaxing journey: it is possible to enjoy pleasant walks along the mountain paths during the summer months and practice crosscountry skiing along the tracks of Marcialonga or reach the nearby ski areas of Dolomiti Superski.
It is one of the oldest villages in Val di Fassa and, like the other towns of the area, jealously preserved Ladin traditions; it was borderland between the Bishop-Principality of Trento and the one of Bressanone to whom the whole valley belonged for centuries, except the town of Moena.
Attractions:
- the ancient "Ciasa de le Onge", once served as a customs;
- the Church of the Saints Pietro and Paolo, built in the XV century and renowned in the first half of the XX century; inside there is a valuable Baroque style carved wooden altar.
- the small Church of Immacolata (XVII century);
- the ancient 7 farms (masi), today quarters of the town (Gargherle, Rois, Sala, Barbide, Zester, Palua and Molin);
- the artificial lake.
