Terranova di Pollino

Description

Town in the province of Potenza, situated at the foot of Mount Calvario, the village of Terranova di Pollino spreads out at heights between 800 and 1000 meters above sea level and overlooks the Upper Valley of Sarmento, nestled between the landscape of the National Park of the Pollino area . It was founded in the XVI century and was fief of the State of Noia (today Noepoli), under the rule of the Pignatelli, that helped the development of the local economy and the wealth of the territories favoring the agricultural colonization of their possessions.
Not to miss:
- the XVI century Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy;
- the Church of San Francesco of Paola, rebuilt in the XX century on the remains of an existing XVI century church, of which remains only the beautiful pine armored door. Inside, it preserves a fine XVII century altarpiece, realized by an unknown artist;
- the Chapel of the Madonna delle Grazie, dating back to the XVI century, on whose altar is placed a XVI century painting, depicting the Madonna delle Grazie. Of great artistic importance is also the XVII century baptismal font, preserved inside;
- the Chapel of St. Anthony (XVI century), what remains of a monastery entitled to St. Anthony of Padua;
- the Palazzo Rusciani (1893);
- the remains of several water mills.
