Torrita di Siena

Description

This important centre of Val di Chiana is mentioned as early as 1307, despite numerous archaeological finds came to light in the territory would testisfy that the town was already populated during the Etruscan and Roman Ages.
During the Siena's domination the village was fortified by building an imposing ring of walls according to an elliptical plant, equipped by sighting towers and three gates, so that the village became an important defensive bulwark of the southern boudaries of the Republic of Siena.
