Valdisotto

Description

Town of the Upper Valtellina area, in the province of Sondrio, Valdisotto represents the gateway to the magnificent mountains of the Bormiense, that grow up from the Lower Valtellina. It is the result of the relationship between several districts: Cepina, Oga, Piatta, Piazza, Santa Lucia and Tola. Surrounded by woods and by the enchanting natural scenery of the National Park of the Stelvio, during the Winter months it becomes a respected ski resort, thanks to modern and well equipped ski slopes that converge on the St. Colombano, whilst in Summer it is a preferred destination for those that enjoy to practice pleasant and relaxing walks or mountain bike rides along mountain trails.

Not to miss:
- the Church of San Bartolomeo of Càstelaz, which miraculously escaped from a devastating landslide in 1987, built in Romanesque style, with frescoes by an unknown author, whilst the apse and the chancel were decorated by the artist Valorsa (XVI century);
- the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Caravaggio (XVIII century) in the village of Oga;
- the Parish of the Assumption in Cepina with the adjacent ossuary decorated on the exterior with frescos from XVIII century of the artist Ligari;
- the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, with a triptych of 1590;
- the Church of Saint Lucia, with frescoes of the artist Valorsa.
