Andalo

Description

Andalo is a charming town in the province of Trento, set on a large saddle between Val di Non and the Banale plateu, between the Paganella and the Brenta Dolomites, at about 1042 m o.s.l.. Nestled in a wonderful natural landscape, it was originally a collection of 14 "masi" (farms), located on the plain between Molveno, Cavedago and Fai della Paganella.
According to some historians, the place name derives from the Longobard "ganda" (uncultivated land).
Of medieval origins, it was mentioned for the first time in a document of the XII century, when the village took part of the "gastaldia" of Banale. Thanks to the nearby Paganella ski circuit, starting from the XX century the town passed from an agricultural economy to a touristic one. It was, in fact, a popular destination of winter sport lovers.
Attractions:
- the Andalo lake, of karstik origin, whose surface and capacity depends on the rain. It is fed by underground springs and glacial phenomena are still visible.
- the parish church of San Vito, consecrated in 1783.
