Eboli

Description

Few words in order to describe the village of Eboli: mild climate, excellent products, beautiful landscape, archaeological heritage...
Located in the Sele Plains at the foot of the Picentini Mountains, it is characterized by a flat territory. The first human settlements date back to the Prehistoric age, as the rediscover of a Neolithic mummy documents. Eboli was probably founded either by the Greeks or by the Etruscans. After the Roman period it was first destroyed by Alaric and subsequently by the Saracens. During the Lombard period, it became one of the defensive outpost of Salerno's Principality, thanks to its castle, built by Roberto il Guiscardo and surrounded by large walls.
The real economic, urban and social development was promoted during the Fascism era, reclaiming marshes and swamps.
Naturalistic hiking on the mountains overlooking the village are suggested; the dense pinewood along the coast is equipped with picnic area, tables, benches and entertainments.
