The territory of Montaione, which is characterized by gentle hills cultivated with Chianti vineyards and olive groves, has ancient origin, as confirmed by some archaeological finds in the surroundings.
Of Medieval origin, Montaione became famous in the production of the glass: glass Masters from Montaione were appreciated throughout the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The atea is rich in castles and fortress, some of which are still inhabited or transformed in accommodation facilities (such as the castle of Collegalli or Figline), the other ones are ruined (such as the castle of Camporena, Vignale, Barbialla, Tonda, Sughera, Santo Stefano).
Local gastronomic specialties are the excellent extravirgin olive oil, Chianti DOCG wines, truffles and cheese.
