Portopalo di Capo Passero
Description
Hamlet of the town of Pachino, until 1975, Porto Palo di Capo Passero, in the province of Siracusa, is the southermost town in Sicily. The Island of Capo Passero, with its XVI century Spanish fortress, and the Island of Correnti take part of the town.
In addition to the naturalistic beauty, many important historical remains have been found here, such as a III century b.C. necropolis, a early-christian necropolis and a grotto inhabited since the Neolithic Age.
Finally, on July 10th 1943 the Allied Force unloaded there.
