Island of pink granite rock in the province of Olbia-Tempio, located just off the Costa Smeralda, Razzoli is part of the Maddalena Archipelago, composed of about sixty islands, between isles and islets. The scarcity of human settlements has allowed nature to remain uncontaminated, which helps the preservation of the local flora and fauna. Since 1996, the archipelago is a National park. The beautiful colored sea, the coast eroded by the forces of the winds and the sea, perfect for scuba diving, attracts tourists from all over the World. Razzoli is the closest island to Corsica and forms, with Santa Maria and Budelli, the Lagoon of the Port entitled to the Madonna. Uninhabited, it is a paradise for several species of birds. It differs from the other islands for the presence of high cliffs, but offers similar beaches of outstanding beauty such as: Cala Lunga, Cala del Rosario and the beautiful coves that have formed, over the centuries, along the coast.
Razzoli, in particular, there is no historical data of the permanent establishment of settlements, while the Archipelago of the Maddalena, instead, has been inhabited since ancient times. In fact, on the island of Santo Stefano, there are ruins which date back to the Neolithic age, while on the seabed numerous wrecks of ships have been found and along the coastline there are still signs of Roman miltary garrisons. During the Middle Ages the islands were involved in a major depopulation, due to the frequent pirate raids. Only in the XVI century, the island started to repopulate, when farmers from the nearby Corsica, discovered the ideal conditions for animal breeding. Domain of the Savoy, it was attacked in 1793 by French troops, who were defeated by the determination of the local inhabitants.
