Teolo

Description

The town's name derives from the Latin "titulus" ("landmark" for the particular position of the country highlighted by a Roman gravestone, dating from 141 B.C., which used to marked the territorial boundary). Municipality in the province of Padua, located in a valley, rich of woods, Teolo is a well known and appreciated climatic resort, rich in hiking and biking trails.
Several traces found in the area prove the presence of settlements since ancient times. The town has Roman origins and local tales attest that Tito Livio was born here. In the XIII century it was proclaimed the seat of the Podestà and, under the Venetian domination, of the Vicario. Under the Napoleonic domination, the town lost its importance, but when the French redesigned the territorial boundaries, Teolo was reconfirmed as a central district. In the second half of the XIX century it became a Hapsburg possession and under the domination of Austria, its territorial limits and competencies were resized.

Attractions:
- the Church of Santa Giustina, whose original structure was erected in the XIII century and mentioned in a papal document of the late XIII century. Refurbished in the XIX century in Romanesque style, the structure submitted the addition of some chapels and a baptistery. Inside the ceiling is decorated with frescoes in Art Nouveau style and features a main altar embellished with an artwork of Campagnola. The building is flanked by a XV century Bell Tower in Romanesque style;
- the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Mount, documented for the first time in a XIII century edit;
- the Shrine of St. Anthony Abbot;
- the Museum of Contemporary Art, which preserves a permanent exhibition of sculptures and paintings dating from the XIX century to present day;
- Rocca Pendice a man built wall, over a hundred feet tall, on top of which are preserved traces of an ancient fortress;
