Lago di Barrea - Barrea Lake

Lago di Barrea - Barrea Lake

Description

Even the most demanding tourist can find here a surprising answer to every kind of his expectation: large and sandy beaches, rocky spurs overlooking the sea, beautiful mountain lakes, cities of art and archaeological sites, as well as both regional and national parks and natural reserves. Abruzzo is also called "the region of parks": three national parks ("Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park", "Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park" and "Majella National Park") and a regional one ("Sirente-Velino Regional Park") and dozens of protected areas and natural reserves. Rich in tradition, linguistic peculiarty, gastronomy, architectural and natural beauty, Abruzzo is not just a option for a holiday but a land to discover, love and live. L'Aquila, the regional capital, is dominated by a magnificent XVI century castle that currently houses the National Museum of Abruzzo. Pescara, located on the Adriatic coast, is the birthplace of the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio (whose home is now a small and charming museum). In Chieti you can admire the "Warrior of Capestrano", a funerary statue of the VI century BC, preserved in the National Archaeological Museum. Finally Teramo, with its Romanesque style Cathedral, where you can find the silver altar frontal by Nicola da Guardiagrele (important local master goldsmith) and the altarpiece of the Venetian Jacopo del Fiore.
