Civitella Casanova

Description

Civitella Casanova is a small town in the province of Pescara, set in a hilly area of the Gran Sasso-Monti della Laga National Park. It has Roman origins and in numerous Medieval documents it is mentioned "Civitella dell'abbazia" (Abbey's Civitella), as it was a possession of the abbots of the Monastery of Santa Maria di Casanova. During the XVI century the Caltelmo family, counts of Popoli, administrated the criminal jurisdiction on the town, while the abbots the civil one.
