Description

Nestled in the heart of the valley where the elegant Pescara river winds its way, lies the town of Alanno in the province of Pescara. This captivating fortified village, nestled in the heart of Abruzzo, boasts a history that delves deep into antiquity, with evidence of pre-Roman settlements found in the areas of Oratorio and Collegrande. The "Chronicon Cesauriense" offers us the earliest reliable accounts of this place, which was once the fief of the Leognani-Fieramosca.

Walking its streets, one is immediately transported into a medieval ambiance. The characteristic "rue", or narrow lanes, weave their way through historic buildings and picturesque corners, narrating tales of distant times. The imposing remnants of the ramparts and the Fieramosca castle loom on the horizon, silent witnesses to eras of greatness and defense.

But Alanno is not just history: it's also art and devotion. The Oratory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a masterpiece of Abruzzese baroque, houses true treasures within: a magnificent triptych set into the altar and breathtaking frescoes from the school of De Litio. Not far away, the ancient Church of San Francesco stands dignified, once a convent and later transformed into a Higher Institute in the 19th century.

For nature enthusiasts, the Alanno Wildlife Oasis, managed by the WWF, offers an unforgettable experience. Along the banks of the Pescara river, visitors can embark on enchanting paths, admiring species of migratory birds and discovering a rich riverine vegetation.

Alanno, with its blend of history, art, and nature, stands as a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the authentic essence of Abruzzo.
