Piana degli Albanesi
Description
Piana degli Albanesi is a town in the province of Palermo, founded in 1488 by a group of Greek-Albanian refugees, fleeing a Turkish invasion. The town was originally called "Hora" (the city); subsequently it was known as Piana dei Greci, until 1941. The inhabitants still maintain the Albanian traditions, dialect and the Greek rite.
Among the most important monuments we suggest to visit the Church of San Demetrio, realised in 1590, with frescoes by Pietro Novelli, and the Church of Vergine Odigitria, projected in 1644 by Pietro Novelli.
