San Biagio Platani

Description

San Biagio Platani is a small town in the province of Agrigento. The place name derives from the name of the patron Saint (San Biagio) and the Platani river, flowing nearby.
The town was founded in 1648 by Giovanni Battista Berardi, thanks to a licentia populandi.
Among the most representative buildings are the Chiesa Madre and the Chiesa del Carmine, both 18th c. In Easter week high brightly coloured arches are erected over the streets, decorated with agricultural produce and holy images: these are called the Easter arches.
