Ravanusa
Description
Ravanusa is a town in the province of Agrigento, set in an area inhabited since the X-IX century b.C.. Subsequently it was conquered by Greeks and Romans. According to tradition, during the Middle Age Count Roger built here a Sancuary dedicated to Madonna del Fico in gratitude for a victory against the Arabs. The present-day town was founded by Giacomo Bonanno with a licentia populandi (1616 or 1621).
The Mother Church of San Giacomo Apostolo, with a valuable XVII century portal by the Gagini's workshop, the Church of Regolari di San Giorgio (XV century) and Silitti Palace (XIX century) are truly architectoni jewels of the town.
Interesting archaeological finds about an indigenous settlement have been brought to light on the Saraceno Mount.
