Santa Croce Camerina, whose name derives from Gian Battista Celestri, marquis of Santa Croce, who repopulated it in 1598, overlooks the Mediterranean sea. It is located on the area where the Greek colony of Kamarina was founded. In addition to the ruins of the ancient Greek colony, the XII century Mother Church, restored in the XVIII century, which preserves an old reconstruction of Caravaggio's Madonna del Loreto and a statue of San Giuseppe, the patron saint of the town, and the Pace Palace, in art nouveau style.
