Enchanting sceneries, thick woods, excellent wine and thermal waters...this is Villamaina, a nice town located in the Southern part of the province of Avellino.
Villamaina is also known for the fine craftwork, especially wood, stone and wood manufacture. A very appreciated water source flows at Formulano district, among woods and trees.
The Church of Santa Maria della Pace deserves particular attention. Built by the Caracciolo family as an aristocratic chapel annexed to the palazzo, it was later expanded and chosen as the town's Mother Church. It was almost entirely rebuilt after the last earthquake of 1980.
Only ruins remain of the Church of San Antonio because, when it collapsed during the 1980 earthquake.
In the surrounding area, there are important medieval monuments such as the Public Fountains and an old tavern and mills.
In Contrada di Bagni, there are the Hot Springs of San Teodoro where stone artefacts have been found, some dating from the prehistoric period.
