Description

Casola in Lunigiana is a small town in the province of Massa Carrara, set on rocky hill close to the confluence of the Aulella and Tassonaro rivers, near the boundary between the Lunigiana area and the Garfagnana one.
The area was inhabited since the Paleolithic Age, but the village was founded during the Early-Middle Age and was fortified during the Lucca's domination, whose remains are still visible, such as the cilindric tower and the traces of the city walls.
Among the most important monuments to see here, we mention the Church of Santa Felicita, already mentioned in 1296, with a beautiful baptismal font and polycrome altars, the XV century Church of Sant'Andrea, the Pieve dei Santi Cornelio e Cipriano (XII century) and the Museum of the High Valley of the Auletta river.
