Description

Set in the western side of the Lunigiana area, Fivizzano was ruled by the Medici famiy and it is still possible to see the ruins of the city walls, built by Cosimo dei medici in 1540. It is also known with the name of "Florence of the Lunigiana" due to the rich heritage of palaces and works of art.
The centre of life is still today the large Piazza Medicea, onto which the Prepositura of Santi Jacopo and Antonio, built in 1377 and enlared in 1576 also reversing the orientation of the façade, faces. The historical centre is also dominated by palazzo fantoni, seat of the Museo della stampa (Print Museum) and the Augustinian complex, with a rich library, important works of art, a hostel and the bronze monument recalling the origins of Pope Niccolò V who founded the Vatican library.
Outside the city walls it is possible to admire the Verrucola castle, built by Spinetta malaspina, the Pieve church of San Paolo and the village of Soliera with the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Colli.
