Castello del Matese, small village in the province of Caserta, offers an untouched and very relaxing environment, rich in breathtaking views, green valleys and high mountains. Here you can admire picturesque medieval towers and taste typical local products.
Visitors can walk along the banks of Lake Matese, between Mount Miletto and Gallinola, with water supplied by the melting snow on the mountains and springs, some of which have been there forever. East of the lake, the Acqua di Santa Maria provides a starting point for relaxing itineraries on foot, mountain bike or motorbike.
And then there are the valleys: Valle dell'Inferno, a real canyon that divides the hill of Castello del Matese from Mount Muto with small springs, caves, grottos and streams; Valle Orsara, the first stretch of Valle dell'Inferno, with ruins from a Cistercian monastery built in the thirteenth century by monks from the Abbey of Santa Maria della Ferrara from Vairano Patenora. Lovers of trekking, if lucky, can watch Royal Eagles in flight and arrive to Valle Concone, where brown bears were recently seen.
