Sant'Agata dei Goti

Description

Ensconced on a sheer tufaceous cliff, carved on two sides by the two tributaries of the Isclero River, Sant'Agata dei Goti seems like an enormous open-air museum: stone-paved streets, stone-portaled palaces and monumental churches.
Many Roman heritages were founded here (inscriptions, columns, necropolises). Do not miss to visit the beautiful Church of Annunziata (founded in 1238) and the Church of St. Menna (XI century): the houses, closed to each other, formed an united front that overlooks the Martorano river.
Not too far from the centre of the town it is possible to visit a little grotto dedicated to Our lady of Lourdes, a small votive niche realized in 1919 set in the rock.
