Sarcedo

Description

The town's name seems to derive from the Latin word "querquetum" (oak).
Municipality in the province of Vicenza, located between the hilly area that anticipates the Alps and a particularly fertile flat area, Sarcedo, is washed by the streams Igna and Astico.
The discovery of Neolithic Age rests attest the presence of settlements since prehistoric times. In fact the morphological characteristics and the presence of water courses favored and inevitably attracted groups of people. Even the Romans settled there, as evidenced by the presence of a necropolis of the period of Roman colonization in Veneto. Although the first documents that report the existence of a stable settlement in the area, date back to year 983, there is reason to believe that the original foundation occurred around 100-200 years before. The town belonged to the Counts of Vicenza and the Lords of Verlati and was sold, in the XIV century, to the town of Vicenza. Involved in the clashes between the Della Scala and the Carrara, during the following centuries, its inhabitants shared a similar history to the other localities in the nearby, until it passed under the domain of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. After the conquest by Napoleon and a period of acquisition by Austria, Sarcedo, finally was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy.
